Azure Video Indexer
Azure Video Indexer — video AI including content moderation, transcript, faces, and scene labels.
Our Verdict
Decent default if you already live in Azure, but dedicated moderation APIs beat it on accuracy and latency.
Pros
- Bundled with Azure Cognitive Services billing
- Combines moderation with transcripts, faces, and scenes
- Good for enterprises already on Microsoft stack
- Solid compliance posture (SOC, ISO, HIPAA)
Cons
- Video moderation is secondary to indexing, not its focus
- Latency unsuitable for real-time livestream review
- Azure portal UX is notoriously clunky
- Pricing per minute adds up fast at scale
Best for: Enterprises on Azure needing VOD moderation plus metadata extraction in one call.
Not for: Real-time livestream safety or teams outside the Microsoft ecosystem.
