tool.news is a free, open catalog of developer tools published by HeyLabs. We try to collect the minimum amount of data needed to keep the site online and improve it. This page tells you exactly what is collected, by whom, and how to turn it off.

1. What we collect

  • Cloudflare network logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) automatically logs requests for security and abuse protection: IP address, user-agent, request path, response status. These logs are retained by Cloudflare and not under our direct control. We do not store them ourselves.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics. Anonymous, cookie-free pageview counts and Core Web Vitals from real visits, used to understand traffic and page performance. No personal identifiers are collected.
  • Microsoft Clarity. Anonymous session replays and click heatmaps so we can see how people use the catalog and fix usability problems. Clarity assigns a random ID and stores it in a cookie. We never see your name, email, or precise location, and we mask text input field contents by default. You can opt out globally at clarity.microsoft.com/dataprotection.

2. What we do NOT collect

  • We have no user accounts, so we don’t collect names, emails, or passwords.
  • We have no advertising network. We don’t track you across other sites.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for advertising.

3. Cookies we use

Microsoft Clarity sets the following anonymous cookies when you visit:

  • _clck β€” anonymous user ID, kept 1 year
  • _clsk β€” session ID, kept 1 day
  • A handful of related session-management cookies, all set by clarity.ms

To opt out, block third-party cookies for clarity.ms in your browser, or visit clarity.microsoft.com/dataprotection to opt out of Clarity across every site that uses it.

4. Your rights (GDPR)

If you’re in the EU, EEA, or UK, you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, to object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Because we don’t hold accounts, the most useful right here is to opt out of Microsoft Clarity using the methods listed in section 3.

5. Your rights (California, CCPA / CPRA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To opt out of Microsoft Clarity tracking entirely, use any of the methods listed in section 3.

6. Data retention

Cloudflare Web Analytics retains aggregated data for up to 6 months under our free plan. Microsoft Clarity retains anonymous session data for up to 13 months per Microsoft’s data policy. We do not export or join this data with any other system we run.

7. Changes to this policy

We’ll update this page when our data practices change. The “last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change.
